1st day of my temp contract being over! It's so weird to be home after having gone there every workday for 13 weeks and getting invested in my projects. They are both going into their next phase, but I can't help but be curious as to how the end products will come out. For me it's never just a job...no matter what I am doing, haha.
I went to see my boys this weekend (my old horses...not humans) and it has been so long since I've seen them...they are older men now, both 20 years old. Carlos (the 17.3h Oldenburg) still works for a living, while Cody (the 15.2 and a half h, thank you very much, Thoroughbred) pays his way by being a good companion and helping teach the younger kids about horse care. I still picture them as their old performance-horse selves, but its been 6 years since I saw them last so I shouldn't be surprised that they look so much older! Being at the farm really makes me want to ride, but that's ok.
I am beginning my weird food alphabet photo series. I know some people might have issues about this topic, so most everything will be under a cut and please do let me know if you'd like to be filtered off of these.

It seems kind of cliche to me, starting with the apple for A, but I used to have them so much that I couldn't not give them top billing.

This apple is going back to it's roots...although this is a maple tree.

Part of a balanced food intake.
That is all I have for apples...this is kind of an experiment so not much to start. Below is a bonus picture of the hydrangea in my garden, which is looking rather nice these days.

Have a call at 2 PM with an HR person at the company I just finished the contract at. After establishing a lot number of both internal and external contacts while working there, I think I'll be name-dropping like a fiend. Gotta play the game these days!

Date: 2010-08-03 12:28 am (UTC)Carlos is huge and intimidates most people at first, but he's one of the sweetest horses I've ever met. He's the gentle giant :). Cody intimidates people too, because when you first come up to him he acts all pissy, but it's all for show....he talks big but really has a great heart. I should post pictures of them sometime.
I used to eat apples all the time and I love them (they were always safe) but I can't have them right now. So sad. Carlos enjoyed it thoroughly, however, and I can say that it was definitely very juicy.

Date: 2010-08-03 01:32 am (UTC)I've always been in love with horses too. I used to help train and work on the farm taking care of them, so they were like my children in that way.
I don't ride at the moment (its an expensive sport!) but it was pretty much what my live revolved around in high school/early in college. I do miss it quite a bit.
Now I just want to talk about my boys and share pictures, etc. See? I really am like their mom!

Date: 2010-08-03 10:34 am (UTC)Yay horsies!
Hope the phone interview went awesomely. When I had the interview for the job I had now, I name dropped like crazy. Even though I didn't know many people at all, it turned out I knew the right people. Plus I showed that I knew a bit of how the company operated.

Date: 2010-08-03 12:47 pm (UTC)The phone interview did go pretty well. I did name drop like a fiend, which I am totally fine with. I definitely have a good idea of how the company operates and I was able to get that across. I also wanted to emphasize that while working there I took an active interest in learning about the company so that I could be more effective there. I didn't have to do that...I was just a temp after all...so I think that it showed some initiative.
The downside? Although she said they were going to be adding positions soon, their new fiscal year does not start until October, so it might be a month or two. I need a job now, damnit! It's hard right now because everyone is on vaca tho.

Date: 2010-08-03 10:16 pm (UTC)So, this is probably toeing the line of internet anonymity, but do you want the name of the agency I got my job through, if you don't want to wait to hear back? The agency itself is in Boston, but they've mostly been placing at the place I work at, which is not, but pretty close to Boston.

Date: 2010-08-03 10:52 pm (UTC)I'm not strict about the anonymity thing here, as long as you're ok with that. Most agencies give $ for hired referrals, so that would be very cool if you could get some money out of the deal! Send me a PM if you want to give that a shot.
I have been working through PSG, and I registered for OfficeTeam and Beacon Hill in May so if it is one of those three it might not work. Still, it never hurts to have an "in". Thank you!

Date: 2010-08-03 01:04 pm (UTC)Yaaaaay horses! :D 17.3 sounds fabulous, haha; I was always the tallest one in my lessons so got put on the big horses, and now when I'm on anything under 16hh the floor seems SCARILY CLOSE. How come you don't ride anymore (if you don't mind me asking!)?

Date: 2010-08-03 02:45 pm (UTC)I'm not that tall (5'6") but I rode pretty much everything at my barn, from the bratty large ponies to the 18.1h Clydesdale we were saddle breaking. Also, I'd regularly switch off from Carlos to Cody and back again so I got used to it. I will say that, although I only fell off Carlos maybe once or twice, it was a loooong way to the ground.
I don't ride anymore as my boys are older and live at a barn that is about an hour away. I used to live down there in the summer and weekends during school so it worked out then, but my budget does not allow for the gas needed to get there, nevermind lessons! I haven't been the healthiest person either so there's that issue too.
It's ok though...I know I will get back to it someday! Do you still ride?
