I'M SORRY, YOU GUYS, BUT IF I AM NOT SEEING WHAT I AM SEEING, THEN I FEEL LIKE I AM TAKING CRAZY PILLS HERE. HOW IS THIS A) NOT ON PURPOSE and B) NOT ON PURPOSE
AS IT IS, I ASKED MYSELF "DID I JUST SEE THAT??"

PLEASE DISCUSS. THANK YOU.

INCREDIBLY SADDENED right now
Sep. 30th, 2010 08:38 amOkay, I am doing a drive-by post because I heard this on the radio on the way to work this morning and it made me so, so sad.
Suicide of a Rutgers University freshman linked to an online broadcast of his sexual encounter with another man
IDEK WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THIS. I HAVE NO WORDS.
Way to go, alma mater, way to go.
I try to run, but see I'm not that fast
Aug. 8th, 2010 07:30 pmStill feeling poorly, but it was a good Sunday.
☺ I went to see Salt with a friend. I wanted to see Inception but my friend really doesn't like sci-fi type things, and as I am never really opposed to watching AJ blow things up, so it was all good.
☺ The cinema we go to has a huge parking lot, and Sundays in the summer there is a "flea market" there. I say "flea market" in quotations, because it's less a bunch of vendors selling random trinkets from their grandmother's attic than it is lots of people selling knock off luggage and $1.00 soap products. I kind of love it. We got Italian Ices, walked around and I haggled a few good deals on some fun necklaces that I can chop and remix.
☺I wrote some porn. It's Merlin/Arthur and NC-17 and for
cherrybina 's Merlin Necking Fest 2010. Apparently I write loquacious porn. The words, i cannot stop them. HELP!
☺I love you guys.

As I'm sure most of you are aware, EXCITING NEWS TODAY THAT GIVES ME HOPE FOR HUMANITY
I'm happy to live in a state that allows my friends to get married regardless of their sexual orientation, but it hasn't yet spread to other states as I always hoped it would. I hope this is a sign that might be changing and that this sets the bar for every other state to follow suit.
Went to 2 staffing agencies today, and now have 2 interviews set up for tomorrow. This makes me happy too. I'm excited about tomorrow!
Aaaand I know I just gave away one pair, and I don't want to seem like I'm looking to pawn stuff off to other people, but DAMNIT I AM CELEBRATING NOW SO HAVE SOME MORE EARRINGS PEOPLE
( read all about it )
In other news, I have been inhaling napthalene because my mom keeps bailing on me when I try to put the carpet she moth-ball-bombed in the basement. It's making me really nauseous...I had no idea how toxic that stuff is I mean, I knew it was bad to inhale, but I didn't think it could make one that sick so fast. Yikes.
I can't really manipulate the carpet myself or I'd have put it away already.
Ok, time to go iron my other skirt suit.

1st day of my temp contract being over! It's so weird to be home after having gone there every workday for 13 weeks and getting invested in my projects. They are both going into their next phase, but I can't help but be curious as to how the end products will come out. For me it's never just a job...no matter what I am doing, haha.
I went to see my boys this weekend (my old horses...not humans) and it has been so long since I've seen them...they are older men now, both 20 years old. Carlos (the 17.3h Oldenburg) still works for a living, while Cody (the 15.2 and a half h, thank you very much, Thoroughbred) pays his way by being a good companion and helping teach the younger kids about horse care. I still picture them as their old performance-horse selves, but its been 6 years since I saw them last so I shouldn't be surprised that they look so much older! Being at the farm really makes me want to ride, but that's ok.
I am beginning my weird food alphabet photo series. I know some people might have issues about this topic, so most everything will be under a cut and please do let me know if you'd like to be filtered off of these.

Have a call at 2 PM with an HR person at the company I just finished the contract at. After establishing a lot number of both internal and external contacts while working there, I think I'll be name-dropping like a fiend. Gotta play the game these days!
I am ridiculously stressed out, so when I got home today decided to make some earrings. I have very basic skills, but even so the process of going through all my random beads, putting together a nice looking combination, crimping the wire, etc. is a good way to get me absorbed in an activity that isn't me thinking about....everything.
However, I don't actually ever wear jewelry, and not wearing what I make leads to an accumulation of earring pairs that inevitably lose their partners and whatnot, so I give them away. Hence the following:

FREE TO A GOOD HOME
The bottom bead is real tiger's eye, the center bead is a dark green (it's a crappy webcam photo as the battery pack for my digital is charging...sorry), and as you can see the top bead is clear. The beads aren't uniform, but isn't that part of their charm? I'd guess the bead portion is about an inch long. The earring part is just a standard silver-color hook. They're basic (as are my skills) and probably not very trendy, but if you want them let me know!! If you take 'em apart just for the tiger's eye beads, I won't be insulted :)
Anyway, I have a good idea for a series of posts, but I'm not entirely sure about it. It involves food, the alphabet, and some reflections, which are maybe too self important for my own taste? I don't know...I'll have to think on it some more.
If anyone wants the earrings, leave a comment or send a PM (I only have one pair so READY SET GO!!). Who knows, if they go maybe I will put more up if I make any more good ones (I have more tiger's eye beads to play with!)
Hello, lovely people. Is anyone still out there? I've been away so long...I've missed you all!!
To give a rundown of the last few months would be ridiculous suffice to say that for a while there I was working about 65 hours a week at 2 jobs, fighting with a round of my superawesome anxiety-ridden depression and being busy trying to help with a few people in my life who have been dealing with health problems.
I've since quit my part-time pizza job which...might leave me job-free since my temp contract at the company I've been working at full-time is ending this week, but it really wasn't a job that was physically very good for me nor very worth the money they were paying me. Plus, having quit that I had more energy to put into the full-time job, which increased my productivity and helped me earn a recommendation from my superiors which will be really helpful while I start to look for new temp work and a permanent job.
Foodservice jobs are fantastic for accumulating some really cool stories, bros, but I have way too many stories for someone my age anyway.
I know this is out of date like bad milk, but it was recently Independence Day around here, and it being the favorite holiday of myself and one of my best friends here, I did attend some of the awesome celebrations that mark the occasion around these parts. Yes, I know we're a country fraught with mistakes in our current events and history, but the holiday is still a Really Big Deal around here and the mood is just infectious. Plus, it's hard not to appreciate things when I am standing, watching some of the best fireworks displays in the world, surrounded by people speaking at least 10 different languages mixed with 15h (or so) generation Americans like me, all pressed up close together like matchsticks and just damn excited to be where we are.
To give you an idea of how seriously everyone takes this holiday around here, I have this craptastic photo:

That thing between the trees is a speaker; they are placed every 50 feet or so along the river and they transmit the music being played by the Pops at the Hatch Shell on the other side. There is a concert that starts about 2 hours before the main event and the fireworks are coordinated to music so they are very important. Back in the day (I mean about 20 years ago) when I first started going to this event as a kid, everyone just used to bring portable stereos. Anyway,
( here )( here )are some more photos from that evening, if you're interested.
So, I've had an interesting few weeks. And by interesting I mean crazy. More importantly, HOW ARE YOU ALL? I've been a terrrrrible LJ-friend and I apologize for that. I've missed you all and Merlin fandom in general so I hope everything is going well. I'll do my best to catch up with flist, but YOUR STORIES, I WANT THEM, for those of you still with me here :)

So, the other day I went over my friend's house to visit her birds and cut her hair - she wanted a mohawk. for an upcoming photo shoot - and since it was nice out and we both wanted something to do we decided to scout out a location we'd been talking about visiting for a while now. It is an abandoned building the grounds of an active psychiatric facility campus (unlike Medfield State Hospital). Entry to the building and photography of any kind are not really allowed, so STEALTH is the name of the game. We decided to head over to the place (it's a beautiful grounds anyway and walking around is permitted) and scout it out a little...estimate the security detail, look for points of entry, etc. We saw that it had been boarded up quite a bit recently and getting in was going to be tough....we hopped some fences and noticed that a narrow window leading into the basement was open. Hmmmm.
This window (probably about 2' long, 1' high) opened up into a 7-foot or so drop to the basement floor. There was a handy pipe on the ceiling and a few things around that looked like OK footholds, so my friend decided to see if she could make it in. She evaluated the situation from the floor and figured we could probably get out the same way, so I followed her in (went through the window reverse-style on my belly, easy drop to the floor).
The basement room itself had a lot of natural light, but we wanted to get up to the next few floors. However, entering the hallway from the basement highlighted a fact that most everything else HAD been boarded up and there was NO light. Three steps in and I only knew my friend was in front of me was because I was holding on to her sweatshirt. In order to safely (well...safe as this stuff goes) navigate around we would need a flashlight. We hadn't brought anything with us because we had initially only planned on scouting....but I thought I might have one in my car. Deciding to go for it we got back through the window acrobat-style and and hurried (stealthily) to my vehicle where it turned out I DID have a small flashlight and, as luck would have it, a camera (albeit my low-quality digital one, but a camera nonetheless).
So, we headed back equipped, dropped back into the basement and spent over an hour exploring the place. I wish we could have had more time, but the sun was setting and we decided it was better to get out before dark. The pictures I got were few in number (the photo card was full and I didn't have time to mess with it on the fly) and pretty bad quality, but I'm glad I got some.

This is one of the (beautifully-carved!) wood staircase enclosures. I was really frustrated that I didn't get a better picture of it but it does give you an idea!
I should probably say that I'm a reckless individual and DON'T DO THIS, PEOPLE because it is unsafe and against the rules. And if anyone asks, I was never there :P

1) Computer fixed over a week ago, but still a little absent around here because...
2) I was in the hospital for a week. Infection. Other issues. Was able to read LJ and comment some but didn't get full computer access until Friday. I remembered how utterly boring hospital stays are. Thankfully, I had recently downloaded a ton of podfic, which seriously SAVED MY SANITY. I feel like I need to write a "Thank you" letter to all those lovely podficcers and possibly buy them presents. Or something.
I also wrote Merlin/Arthur fic in a little notebook, which may or may not be typed up and posted. It's all angsty and probably addled. SPEAKING OF ADDLED...
3) I am so behind with LJ and other online stuff and I'm just beginning to get caught up. SO I ASK YOU, flist, WHAT IS THE 411? WHAT ARE THE COOL JAMS?
Then again, it's only been a week...but it was a terribly long one over here.
4) In my addled state, I pre-ordered Merlin Season 1 on DVD from Amazon, WHICH IS COOL AND ALL, but it's not coming out until April 26th and I wasn't going to buy it until next month. I was supposed to spend my March self-allocated ~$30 "monthly extras" budget on a paid LJ account (I KNOW, I'M LAME AND BEHIND THE TIMES) but in some kind of excited haze I forgot. It's probably because....
5) I saw the little "Merlin Season Premiere" corner thingy pop up on the SyFy channel and got a little too excited. I think I pointed at the screen and said "OMG look" which probably looked silly and frankly was silly because it's not like I didn't know it was coming. Maybe it was just my response to seeing Colin Morgan's face on my television screen...I've only ever seen it on a laptop. I'm looking forward to the marathon next Sunday.
Speaking of things to do on a Sunday...
7) Today my friend and I took a little trip to an abandoned state mental hospital to walk around and take some photos. We're kind of UrbEx addicts and while this wasn't exactly that it was a nice trip nonetheless. I love abandoned places/things and while today wasn't great for photos (too sunny!) it was beautiful to walk around. I don't know if any of you are interested in that kind of thing (and my digital camera is a little crappy) but here are are a few of the photos if you'd like to see them:
( Remember us, for we too have lived, loved and laughed )
8) I came back to my LJ to feeling the need for new icons. I need to go clicking around for more, but definitely have things I need to be doing instead. I could keep them but having 15 at a time means I need to refresh my stock instead of adding to it. IDK why I am mentioning this. ANYONE OUT THERE MAKE ICONS??? POINT ME TO YOUR CREATIONS!!
9) FLIST I MISSED YOU!!

My computer had other plans, though, and it's being sort of wonky *pokes* so it has to go to the gurus for a look-see. SO SAD INTERNET WHAT WILL I DO WITHOUT YOU?
Anyway, yeah, erm. BACK SOON. REALLY.

So, because I love poetry and I couldn't pick just one, you get 2 classics from me. Go forth and multiply.
"A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
"Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
HELLO FRIENDS NEW AND OLD. HAPPY MARCH!
So..here 3 things that smack of goodness:
1.
reel_merlin signups! Seeing as I've been having a bit of fun with fic writing, I thought I'd try to sign up for something like this. I read the completed entries over there in the fall and then asked myself "Self, what movie would I want to cross over with Merlin?". And then it hit me and refused to go away...I want a Merlinized version of The Fifth Element. With Arthur!Corbin Dallas and Merlin!Lilu. That's right, Merlin is going to be Milla Jovovich, only with magic instead of martial skills and no orange hair. I might be crazy, BUT I'M EXCITED, FOLKS.
2. March! Which means spring is on its way and kayak season is almost here! (Until I get a drysuit and perfect my roll..then it's on all 4 seasons)
3. Explaining plate tectonics to my coworkers using pizza slices and spatulas for props.
And 3 photos I for the road

That's a Sheppard Fairey piece (of HOPE poster fame) near work

Took these on the way to work today. I didn't do it, honest!

Title: Pas De Deux (Or, Arthur and Merlin do the Olympics)
Pairings: Arthur/Merlin
Rating: Hard R
Warnings/Spoilers: Here be porn, un-beta'd
Disclaimer: They do not belong to me and this has no effect whatsoever on my cash-money flow
Summary: written for the
kinkme_merlin prompt: Arthur/Merlin, they are both athletes who meet at the Olympics. Arthur teases Merlin that his sport isn't really a sport. Merlin wins gold, Arthur doesn't. Merlin decides instead of gloating, he'll let Arthur take out his frustrations on him instead. Points for Arthur fucking Merlin while Merlin wears his gold medal. De-anon with more porn, a.k.a. this is The Late-Night Pay Per View Remix.

It's a give and take kind of like we make
Feb. 13th, 2010 11:40 pmWow. Today was insane at work. We did something like $1500 in the first four hours of my shift, which is little more than $6/minute. That's pretty ridiculous seeing as our most popular menu item is $5. THANK YOU HARVARD FOR HOSTING A NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE TOURNAMENT. APPARENTLY CHEESE AND CARBS MAKE GOOD FUEL FOR SPIRITED REPARTEE.
I wouldn't know. I'm allergic to dairy products.
Still, it was funny having random high school boys try to flirt with me for a free cookie. I prefer this to older guy who tried to flirt with me yesterday because he liked my tattoo. It's kind of cute when a 17 year old from Florida tries to smile and talk about how it is cold and be charming. It's not so cute when the 40-something guy asks me outright "Do you have a boyfriend?".
Erm. Anyway. I took this pic the other day on the way to the dentist. I thought these cars looked like knights, swordswipers at the ready to do battle with snow that never actually came in a meaningful way.

Oh, and there is a small sporting event going on right now, as you might know. The 33rd America's Cup, taking place in Valencia, Spain. I love boats.
Wait, you thought I was going to talk about the Olympics, right? Well, there is that. Which reminds me, I wrote an Olympics-related Merlin fic a while back, but I HATED THE ENDINGbecause I copped out of writing porn. So, eventually I will own up to said work of writing, but NOT UNTIL I FIX THE ENDING. I should probably poke around for a beta if I'm going to go whole-hog, though. Hmm.
I actually do like the Olympics. Canada's a cool place, too. I dig it there. I once planned on competing at Spruce Meadows but it didn't pan out. Sad face.

Wait, you thought I was going to talk about the Olympics, right? Well, there is that. Which reminds me, I wrote an Olympics-related Merlin fic a while back, but I HATED THE ENDING
I actually do like the Olympics. Canada's a cool place, too. I dig it there. I once planned on competing at Spruce Meadows but it didn't pan out. Sad face.
I didn't know that I needed a Merlin/Mean Girls crossover in my life, but apparently I DID like burning.
It all started on a thread over at
ohnotheydidnt , although I didn't get involved until
ems posted all of the Mean Girls/Merlin quotes that came out of said thread. So, I had to contribute my two cents(because Mean Girls is a total guilty pleasure of mine).
So, now all the Mean Girls/Merlin quotes were posted HERE to
ontd_merlin courtesy of
ems (and thanks for putting all that together, you are awesome!) and the cycle repeats itself. WITH HILARIOUS RESULTS. Awesome, because I was having one of those craptastic days in which life is kind of a bitch, but then this thread comes along and HELLO LAUGHTER IS GOOD MEDICINE.
Seriously, I have been laughing for the last hour, at least. I totally had plans to work on writing fic and other totally serious things, but I abandoned said plans because when Mean Girls/Merlin takes over your brain there is no stopping the signal. HIGH FIVES TO EVERYONE INVOLVED.
I think we can agree that MG/M (I have officially abbreviated the crossover) has total merit, because as
rayslady said, "every clique has it's own problems" and the knights of Camelot would totally have issues.

What's your name, 'cause I'm impressed
Feb. 3rd, 2010 11:13 pmI need a magic wave in my life right now...so here's my contribution

Why this picture? Because this was the moment I was all "Hey look its Arthur...and he's a total d-bag! Awesome!". Also, I love the dude cooling out in the backgroundthinking " hey that's hot". Plus, is it just me or is Merlin's grimace not so convincing? Anyway, propagate, wave of magic, I command you!
