Well, now that I got my political irritation out, I will say "Hello" to the lovely new people from the Merlin Friending Meme.

My name is Alissa, and I currently live in Cambridge, MA. I am 26 and work part-time at a pizza place while I look for full time work (victim of the economic downturn, but that's okay) and ponder a return to school. I have my B.A. in Geology but I'd be going back for Environmental Science.

Anyway, I generally use this journal for fandom-related things, like my recent forays into writing fic. I still find the fact that I am actually writing anything rather funny asI had long labeled myself Not A Writer. Having been around various fandoms, on and off, for 10+ years mostly as a lurker, my level of participation in Merlin related stuff still surprises me (in a good way). The first fic I ever read was in 1999, just after Star Wars: The Phantom Menace came out, so that's where I started out.

Anyway, I also love to read, am a pretty avid sea kayaker (out of season right now, though) and really enjoy  just walking around the city. I'm not a photographer in the sense that I've had training, but I also like to take pictures while doing one of several outdoor sports (hiking, paddling, etc) or of interesting things I find around my hometown.

So I hope that is enough of an intro. It's hard to pin oneself down in a post, and I am out of practice! I did have an LJ that I kept for years, so maybe I just need to get back into the swing of things.

Oh, and I'm DarthRocky over at Twitter if you're into that kind of thing.

I used to rock hound when we'd go on trips out west! Plus I collected for years.

I also label myself as Not A Writer, even though I've been writing for ages.

Star Wars!

I love collecting rocks from the places I visit. I have been known to take a lot longer on hikes than normal due to my side-tracking picking up rocks and analyzing them along the way. I'm a geek like that :)

Yes, Star Wars is my original fandom. Watched the original series as a young kid and never looked back :). It's funny, because I have no idea how I came across the fic I read, but I remember it clearly because it was slash and I had no idea what that was at the time. I probably found it through AltaVista or one of those old search engines.

I also tend to collect rocks still when I'm visiting places but most of my collection is in boxes in the basement.

I've been a Star Wars fan since 1977 and TPM reopened that love. However, with the EU books, I just go tired of it so my new love is Merlin! Yah! I'm still writing in the SW universe only because I always finish the stories I start. But I'm not a Writer, just someone who tells stories.

Oh, dear, slash at a young age. I send my kid links to things in Merlin but only non-slash. She's 15 and I figure she's read slash but I'm not encouraging her until she's older.

I read a lot of the EU books, but couldn't get into the NJO ones and basically got tired of it too.

As for underage slash, I was 15 at the time and had no idea what I was reading until I got halfway through and said "ohhh". It was pretty funny in retrospect. Those days everyone hosted their fic on Geocities sites or on forums; warnings and disclaimers were pretty scarce too. Amazing how things have taken off!

Wow, a kayaker!! I'm in the midwest and there is nothing as cool as that here lol. I'm going to have to check out your fics too bb!

I don't have much fic wise, I've really just started and am still a little self-conscious about it all. I have had fun writing the small amount I have, though :)

Kayaking is really fun! I prefer the sea, but rivers are nice too. I'm still learning but just procured a kayak of my own so I hope to do a lot more this year.

Well there's no better way to learn then to actually do something! I just plain can't write fic! Back when I actually tried, which was years ago, I'd outline the entire thing and then get bored by the third chapter, so I'd never actually post anything, lol.

I have been to the sea before and I find it very calming and I love the smell of it. =]

I love the ocean. Times that I've lived inland I have missed it. The smell and the sound of the ocean are indeed nice, although not so much in certain parts of Boston Harbor at low tide :P

It's great to meet you! :) I might do something resembling a proper introduction some day instead of just a mass of updates about a variety of things...But you're right. Pinning yourself down in a single post is damn near impossible!

Nice to meet you too! I figured I should do something to say hello to everyone, especially since my journal is relatively new and does not have much on it yet.

Hey, makes total sense! I like to know a bit about the people on my friends list, intro posts are awesome for that.

Which really begs the question of why I haven't done one again yet, doesn't it? But honestly, my journal is like, the opposite of new. It just had its 8th birthday, in fact! I've probably made tons of intro posts, if only I were patient enough to go find them all and make a comprehensive list of them! Which I'm definitely not, for the record. That would take an age.

Hello Alissa, I'm very pleased to meet you! ;) I laughed when I read you were a fellow lurker delurking only in the Merlin fandom... that's pretty much my case, too. I'll have to go take a look at your fics soon.

Adding you on Tweeter because your tweets made me laugh and that's exactly what I'm looking for when I go there.

Nice to meet you too! I really only have 2 fics (well, 2 that I have claimed anyway) so there's not much. I am enjoying getting into writing so more later (?).

:) I'm glad I made you laugh. My tweets are so random sometimes, I wonder if they make any sense!

Ooh, Massachusetts! I'm thinking about going to grad school over there but I don't fancy the weather after living in California all my life.

And yay! Twitter! I'm nuclearsugars over there so I'll follow you. *scurries*

I can imagine it would be a big adjustment, moving here from CA. A guy I work with just moved here from FL and this is his first winter with us in the snow, and he's not all that keen on it.

I think it is something you get used to. I lived in TX for a while and I was a little weirded out by the lack of winter there!

My tweets are random, but then again I suppose I am a a bit too :)

Hi! was rereading your kinkme story (which I loved ;-) and realized from your last post we have more in common than just Merlin. Currently enjoying some of that Not-Winter weather in Texas~~

Hello! Thanks for reading! I didn't know at the time if my sense of humor worked out at all, so I am glad you enjoyed it.

Living in Texas in early February one morning I saw pansies blooming and I was surprised. My friend said "But pansies do start to come out this time of year!". A few weeks later I got to experience my first dust storm. Good times!

Hello new friend! I live down in PA and I'm currently a high school senior (and really, really hoping the end would come faster!) Like you, the Merlin fandom has really made me delurk myself into the communities and fun that is fandom and what not. So I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hello! I love this fandom, everyone seems very friendly and there is very little (or none, as far as I know) wank. So far it has been a lot of fun!

I love your icon too! I love the scenery in Merlin, it (like the cast) is so very pretty.

Hello! At work I'm on the counter for the most part, which means doing pretty much everything but making the actual pizzas. I've only been there about 2-3 months and while it's not a dream job I work with a great crew, which makes a big difference.
